Roofs Built for West Valley City’s 103 MPH Design Wind Speed
West Valley City’s adopted design criteria set the basic wind speed at 103 mph for Risk Category II structures, with seismic design category D and a frost line depth of 30 inches. The city has adopted the 2021 International Residential Code and the 2024 International Building Code, effective April 18, 2026.
On a shingle roof that number is worth comparing against the warranty. Malarkey’s limited wind warranty is 110 mph as standard, which already sits above West Valley City’s Category II design wind speed, and rises to 130 mph when the shingles are installed with Malarkey starter and hip & ridge shingles and the required nailing pattern (four nails per shingle on most lines, five on Windsor, which carries a 140 mph enhanced rating). A design wind speed and a warranty term measure different things, but the margin is real and it comes from the installation, not the shingle alone.
Malarkey’s instructions require approved corrosion-resistant nails, do not permit staples, and call for a double layer of underlayment on slopes between 2:12 and 4:12. Dedication Roofing is Malarkey certified and installs the full system. A quote that does not name the starter and ridge products is not quoting the same roof.
Snow and ice test a Utah roof as hard as wind does. Our guides explain what Utah code requires for ice and water shield and whether your roof can carry this winter’s snow load.

Common questions
FAQs
Do you offer free estimates for your roofing services?
Dedication Roofing provides free, no-obligation estimates throughout West Valley City and the Salt Lake Valley, for both homes and commercial buildings. That covers residential shingle work as well as flat and low-slope commercial roofs. There is no charge and no obligation to book.
Why is manufacturer certification important for roofing in Utah?
Utah roofs face freeze-thaw cycling in winter and high heat in summer, so installation errors show up faster here than in milder climates. Dedication Roofing holds IB (Industry’s Best) certification for commercial flat roofing, and Malarkey certification for shingles. Certification means the crew has been trained and approved to install to manufacturer specification, which is what makes a manufacturer-backed warranty possible. On IB membrane installations, that qualifies us to offer 25-Year No Dollar Limit warranties backed by the manufacturer rather than only the installer.
How long will my new commercial flat roof last?
A properly installed membrane flat roof typically lasts 20 to 30 years, compared with roughly 10 years for an average flat roof. The difference comes down to the system specified and whether it was installed to manufacturer specification. Dedication Roofing installs IB-certified flat roof systems for businesses in West Valley City and across the Salt Lake Valley, with 25-Year No Dollar Limit warranties available on IB membrane installations.
Do you offer emergency repair services for severe weather damage?
Dedication Roofing provides emergency roofing service across West Valley City and the Salt Lake Valley for active leaks, blown-off shingles, wind and storm damage, and ice dams. The first step is stabilizing the roof: we tarp or temporarily seal an active leak to stop water entering the building, then plan and schedule the permanent repair.
What areas in Utah do you currently serve?
Dedication Roofing is based at 6452 W Kings Estate Dr in West Valley City, covering ZIP codes 84119, 84120 and 84128, and serves homes and businesses across Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Summit and Tooele counties. Do you only fix roofs, or can you handle other exterior repairs?
Both. Alongside roofing, Dedication Roofing installs and repairs siding, soffit and fascia for homes and businesses in West Valley City and across the Salt Lake Valley. On the roofing side, we install Malarkey architectural and impact-resistant shingles for homes, and IB-certified flat roof systems plus protective coatings for flat and low-slope commercial roofs.
